A blog is a collection of pages, known as blog posts, together with a main page that shows summaries of the posts and links to read them in full, as shown below.

The most recent post is shown first, making blogs particularly suitable for news articles. You can create a blog anywhere you can add a normal page, and you can even have multiple blogs on your site.

Creating a blog

To create a blog, select the page type Blog when adding a new page, as shown below.

Managing posts

You can create new posts, or manage existing drafts and published posts, through the main blog page. In edit mode, the blog toolbar, as shown below, is shown above the post summaries.

Click Create post to open the post creation window, as shown below.

Enter a title for the post. You can also choose to use an existing post as a template, or choose Blank post to create a post containing only the shared areas (the header, navigation, and footer). Click Create to create the post, and the new post will then open in the website editor.

New posts are created as drafts, which means they are not yet visible to visitors to your site. Making a post visible on your site is known as publishing.

Click Drafts to view a list of drafts. Drafts are shown in alphabetical order. Click on the title of any post to open it in the website editor.

Click Posts to view a list of published posts. Published posts are shown in date order, with the most recent post first. Click on the title of any post to open it in the website editor.

Click Settings to to display the blog settings window, as shown below.

The blog settings window lets you change the following settings:

Layout

Whether to lay out the posts in a single column of summaries, as a grid of large tiles, or as a grid of small tiles. When using a grid layout, the post's banner image, title, and publication date will be shown in the tile.

Posts per page

How many posts to show on each page.

Date format

The format for the publication date. [date] and [time] will be replaced with the publication date and time of the post.

Click OK to apply the changes to the blog. Click Cancel to return to the page without changing the blog.

Editing a post

In edit mode, the blog post toolbar, as shown below, is shown above the post.

Each post consists of six sections:

  • The post title and publication time. The post title is the same as the page name, so clicking on this section opens the metadata window so you can rename the page.
  • Content that will be shown in summary on the main blog page. You can add any options you want in this section.
  • Content that will only be shown when viewing the full post. You can add any options you want in this section.
  • Tags, which let visitors browse posts on the same topic. Clicking on this section opens the metadata window, where you can edit the tags for the post.
  • Sharing buttons for sharing the post by e-mail or on social media.
  • A comments component so that visitors can leave comments. You can enable or disable comments on each post.

When you are ready to publish a post, click Publish post. The page will be saved and the post will be published.

When editing a published post, a Revert to draft button is shown instead, and clicking it will turn the post back into a draft.
